Throughout the year, parents and students will have access to information and resources on this website.
I will post resources; such as, helpful articles. For example parents, check out this link for articles about back-to-school anxiety, relationships and expectations with teens, and plenty more topics: '50 Best Back-to-School Articles for Parents.'
The theme of our classroom is entitled "A World of Possibilities." Students will be encouraged to pursue topics they find interesting, participate in discussions about topics that are new to them, and explore literature, poems, and online resources to open their minds. We will practice these things by using our 4 C's: Collaborate, Communicate, Critical Thinking, and Creativity. You will find these terms and strategies used as guides for lesson plans, unit plans, and expectations of the students.
During the first week of class, my students and I will develop a mission statement together. I will also ask each class period to create a list of norms, "a set of vows regarding their academic efforts and in how they treat one another both online and offline," (Heather Wolpert-Gawron). Listed below is a combination of each class period's heads and hearts that collaborate together and make up Ms. Parker's language arts class of 2014-2015.
"We, the students of Mrs. Pittman's class know that there are certain academic and behavioral expectations when we work together both in the classroom and online. We pledge to do the following as stated in our student-created Classroom Constitution:"

Parents, thank you for taking the time to explore your student's language arts classroom. I hope to provide an online environment where you feel free to ask questions, share interests, and participate in discussion with your children.
Students, thank you for entrusting me with your learning this year. As one of my favorite language arts teacher, Mrs. Wolpert, said, "I'm a selfish teacher. In exchange for teaching you, I also expect to learn from you, too."
If you would like to learn more about me, Mrs. Pittman, then please visit my Portfolio (please excuse the name, it is my maiden name from the time I created the page). The link is as follows: http://sarahaparker.weebly.com/
Sincerely,
Mrs. Sarah Pittman

This website was inspired by a wonderful language arts researcher, Heather Wolpert-Gawron. I am a firm believe that if you see something done correctly; borrow, collaborate, and make it your own. You may visit Mrs. Wolpert-Gawron's website at http://www.wolpertworld.com/.
