As Peter Johnston notes, “For teachers, the most useful aspect of errors is that people do not make them randomly.”
-This quote RESONATES with me as a teacher; because so many times, middle school students are embarrassed by mistakes. Instead, they should take responsibility for these mistakes and see them as an opportunity to analyze these areas and grow in understanding.
Welcome to 7th grade language arts
This year, your student will be studying the 8th grade language arts curriculum as aligned with I-SS standards, North Carolina State Standards, and Common Core Curriculum. All three curriculum support each other with focus on reading, writing, speaking and technology. Students will practice Ms. Parker's classroom standard of the 4 C's: Collaborate, Communicate, Critical Thinking, and Creativity. Each of these standards and strategies support student growth in real-world application and communicating in the 21st Century, both online and offline.
daily Expectations
Doing well is no secret. Work hard. Ask questions. Respect others. Behave appropriately. Be prepared to learn when coming to class. Leave the drama outside the door. Bring your materials. Arrive on time. Take care of personal necessities before coming to class. Dress appropriately. Keep the classroom clean. Dispose of your own trash. Behave respectfully.
Tardies
If you are not in your seat when the bell rings you will be marked as Tardy. This expectation should be no surprise. Students will be made aware of this policy on the first day of school, consider that your verbal warning.
technology integration
Students will work on our in class computers. Technology expectations are in place to protect students while learning to appreciate the educational outlet of online resources.
- Under no circumstances should students "surf the web" unsupervised. If students are off topic and abusing such rule, their computer privileges will be taken away until further notice.
- Students should 'quit' any off-topic and non-school related applications. If applications are seen open by Ms. Parker, she will first give a warning to quit. If they are seen a second time, she will send the student to an administrator.
